Abstract

Nganjuk Regency, located in the scenic region of East Java, stands out as one of the major agricultural centers demonstrating strong potential for agribusiness development supported by partnerships between dedicated farmers and dynamic agro-processing industries. Nevertheless, the practical implementation of such partnerships often faces various challenges, including unequal bargaining positions, limited access to capital, and excessive dependence on policies determined by industry actors. The main objective of this study is to analyze the feasibility of developing partnership-based agricultural businesses in Nganjuk Regency by considering economic, social, and institutional dimensions, while formulating recommendations to strengthen sustainable partnership models. This study employs a qualitative approach through a comprehensive literature review, utilizing secondary data from scientific journals, reports from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), and regional policy documents, with data analysis conducted using content analysis techniques. The findings indicate that partnerships between farmers and industries have promising economic potential, reflected in increased production efficiency and more secure market access, while from a social perspective, these partnerships play an important role in strengthening relationships among farmers and facilitating technology transfer. However, several constraints remain, particularly imbalances in bargaining power, lack of transparency in pricing mechanisms, weak farmer institutions, and unequal relationships between farmers and industries. The assessment shows that partnership-based agricultural businesses in Nganjuk Regency are economically and socially feasible; nonetheless, there is a critical need to strengthen farmer institutions and establish more transparent regulations governing partnerships, with the expectation that local governments will take a proactive role in facilitating fair and sustainable partnership models that benefit all stakeholders within the agricultural sector
