Author Guidelines — Madinia: Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences

Madinia: Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences is a peer-reviewed and open-access academic journal published by the Yayasan Pendidikan dan Sosial Madania. Authors are expected to follow the guidelines below to ensure consistency, quality, and academic integrity in every submitted manuscript.

 

1. General Requirements

  1. Manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not under review in any other journal.
  2. All submissions must align with the journal’s scope: humanities, social sciences, and Islamic studies, particularly those employing interdisciplinary approaches.
  3. Manuscripts must be written in academic English (American or British, used consistently).
  4. Every submission will undergo a double-blind peer review involving at least two independent reviewers.
  5. Plagiarism will be checked using Turnitin; manuscripts exceeding the journal’s similarity tolerance may be returned or rejected.

 

2. Manuscript Structure

Manuscripts should generally follow the structure below:

Title

  • Maximum 15 words, informative, written in Title Case.
  • Avoid abbreviations, overly general phrases, or unclear expressions.

Author(s) Information

  • Full name(s) of the author(s).
  • Institutional affiliation (Department, Faculty, University, Country).
  • Email address for each author (corresponding author marked with *).

Abstract

  • Length: 150–200 words.
  • Should include:
    • Purpose
    • Methodology
    • Main Findings
  • Written in a single paragraph.
  • Followed by 3–5 keywords.

1. Introduction

Provide:

  • Background and context of the study.
  • Research problem, research gap, and objectives.
  • Relevance, novelty, and theoretical positioning.
  • Brief review of the most relevant literature.

2. Discussion / Thematic Analysis

Manuscripts may be organized into thematic subsections using numbered headings (e.g., 2.1, 2.2, 2.3). Each section should:

  • Begin with a conceptual or descriptive overview.
  • Include analysis supported by:
    • scholarly sources,
    • classical Islamic perspectives (if relevant),
    • empirical data (if applicable).
  • Integrate literature logically with arguments.
  • Use quotations appropriately:
    • < 40 words: inline with quotation marks.
    • > 40 words: formatted as block quotes (0.5" indent, no quotation marks).

3. Conclusion

  • Summarize key findings.
  • Present theoretical, practical, or social implications.
  • Highlight recommendations or directions for future research (optional).

Declarations

Authors must include the following statements at the end of the manuscript:

  • Conflict of Interest: State any potential conflict; if none, declare no conflict.
  • Funding Statement: Specify funding sources; if none, write “This research received no external funding.”
  • Data Availability Statement: Indicate whether data can be accessed upon request.

References

  • Must follow APA 7th Edition.
  • Use reference management software (Zotero, Mendeley, EndNote) to ensure accuracy.
  • Include:
    • Journal articles
    • Books and book chapters
    • Classical Islamic references (if relevant)
    • Reputable online sources (when necessary)
  • Ensure all in-text citations appear in the reference list and vice versa.

 

3. Manuscript Formatting

  • Font: Cambria (Body)
  • Font size: 12 pt for text, quotations, and references
  • Spacing:5 line spacing throughout
  • Alignment: Justified
  • Margins: 1 inch (2.54 cm) on all sides
  • Paragraphing:
    • First paragraph of a section has no indent
    • Subsequent paragraphs spaced 6 pt (no tab indent)
  • Page length: 4,000–5,000 words (recommended)
  • Subheading style: Numbered, e.g., 2.1, 2.2, 2.3

 

4. Tables, Figures, and Illustrations

  • Must be placed as close as possible to the text that discusses them.
  • Title written above the table/figure:
    • Table 1. Summary of Findings
    • Figure 1. Conceptual Model of Cultural Interaction
  • Source written below, italicized:
    • Source: Author, 2024
  • Use Cambria 12 pt for all table/figure text.

 

5. Ethical Considerations

  • Manuscripts must adhere to ethical standards and academic honesty.
  • Research involving human participants must include ethical approval (if applicable).
  • Authors must ensure accuracy, avoid fabrication or falsification of data, and acknowledge all sources properly.
  • Madinia follows the ethical principles consistent with COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics).

 

6. Submission Process

  • Manuscripts must be submitted through the journal’s online submission system.
  • Authors must ensure:
    • the manuscript file is anonymized for double-blind review,
    • all metadata are correctly entered,
    • ORCID iD (if available) is included for each author.
  • The Editorial Team reserves the right to return submissions not following the guidelines.

 

7. Copyright and Licensing

  • Articles published in Madinia are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC 4.0).
  • Authors retain copyright but grant the journal the right to publish, distribute, and archive the work.
