Abstract

Community service activities in Juwet Village were motivated by the increasing potential of the avocado agribusiness, particularly in the nursery sector. Seedling production rose from 1,200 to 2,850 units (2021–2024) alongside a decrease in mortality rate from 28% to 13%. However, farmer groups still faced challenges such as limited facilities, uneven technical skills, and weak production recording systems. This program employed the Asset-Based Community-Driven Development (ABCD) approach to empower the community based on local assets. The methods included asset mapping, technical training (improving planting media, grafting), polybag standardization, and managerial strengthening through digital recording and group task distribution. A participatory process was implemented to ensure the community became the main driver of change. As a result, grafting success rates increased from 65% to 82%, seedling quality became more uniform, mortality rates decreased, and production increased. The group also developed a digital recording system that supports market projections. The ABCD approach proved effective in building farmer independence and productivity in developing community-based avocado nursery centers.
